Prison Term Policy Recommendation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Jail Term Policy Recommendation - Essay Example Inside the following five years, it is assessed that sentenced detainees will expand the jail populace by 200,000. Such an exceptional increment in a populace that relies completely upon government bolster will cost twenty-seven billion dollars on the national scale (Ohlemacher). In reality, the country has effectively a gigantic transition of detainees. Over the most recent thirty years, as per Professor Craig Haney, detainment rates have been expanded essentially in the United States (Haney 2). Such figures will just put a channel on the state's monetary spending plan. Consequently, it is important to be exceptionally sure of the viability of a long jail term. Since nothing is outright, and the legislature ought not be viewed as a treasury for exploratory undertakings, this essayist stays suspicious of the circumstance. An ideal case of crime and the reformatory code is that of Richard Allen Davis. As per People Weekly, Davis began his criminal profession burglarizing individuals which further prompted progressively vicious acts, for example, endeavored assault and murder. He has been in jail ordinarily. He had gone through at any rate fourteen years in jail, however he can now never hurt anybody because of California's three strike's law which gives life sentences to convicts with three records of crime (Fields-Meyer). There are two ends I can reach from the Davis case. The first is the way that any measure of jail terms is not the slightest bit an assurance that a convict will exit with restored conduct. Actually, in a survey of Davis, one can nearly estimate that jail makes an individual much progressively forceful and powerful as a crook. My subsequent decision is that regardless of how inadequate jail term is, society, all in all, is protected from such a person for the time they are in jail. I n this way, nobody in the free society will experience the ill effects of Davis for whatever length of time that he lives. Related to straightforward equipped theft, it is important to take in all viewpoints it contains. It is a wrongdoing not confined to taking the material abundance or some likeness thereof, yet an offense that incorporates savagery. The unimportant actuality that it is equipped is a sign that the guilty party planned to undermine passing on the off chance that he/she can't secure what they want. The Republican reports an episode of a burglarized lady, She said preceding the theft she was not reluctant to go into a city, particularly for a social occasion. Presently she feels dread in Springfield as well as different urban communities. (Spencer) This delineates the illustrations impacts a basic burglary can have on individuals. It isn't just lost riches, however a brutal and mental offense. Simultaneously, in any case, a demonstration of requital against brutality may not fix the issue. As indicated by considers performed by Professor Stuart Henry, almost seventy-five percent of detainees have carried out discrete wrongdoings before their imprisonment. That implies three out of four detainees were captured at any rate once previously. This information would recommend that jail sentences have a seventy-five percent possibility of bombing in restoring detainees. Moreover, it is evaluated that the lack of education rate in jail is more than twofold over everybody. This demonstrates convicts discharged from jail are uneducated and might be constrained into crime so as to endure.

Worthy

Worthy I often feel unworthy. I face this feeling when I write about serious topics. I question whether I’m qualified to write about certain subjects, conjuring a tornado of negative thoughts: I’m not perfect. I’m not a Zen master. I’m not Dr. Nicodemus. I’m not worthy. I could blame my upbringing for my psychological defect: I wasn’t encouraged to be more than I was; however, I clearly remember being told what I wasn’t. Whenever I catch myself inside this whirlwind of negative thought, I recognize what I’m doing and redirect my self-talk toward a more positive direction. Instead of what I’m not, I focus on what I am: I am kind. I am genuine. I am adding value. I am worthy. Our level of self-worth is directly affected by the rules we’ve built for ourselves. If you have a rule for yourself that says, “I am not a baker if I don’t own a bakery,” then guess what: you’re not going to feel worthy enough to call yourself a baker until you open a bakery. Most of our internal rules have been shaped by years of reinforcement. That doesn’t mean we must live by those rules for the rest of our lives, though. When we catch ourselves feeling unworthy, we should look for the rule we’ve established that makes us feel this way. Regardless of what we’ve done in our pasts, we still get to decide our own levels of self-worth based on the rules we’ve established. As long as you are living up to those rules, you are worthy. Sample details Pages: 1 Words: 385 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2018/12/29 Category Law Essay Type Assignment Level High school Tags: Gun Control Essay Social Problems Essay Violence Essay Did you like this example? Over the years the United States has been the land of gun violence. The 2017 statistics show that there are approximately 310 million firearms against the population of over 306 million. This estimation gives a true picture of how the guns in the United States, especially when they fall into the hands of the irresponsible persons can be misused. Not once, twice or thrice the number of gun mass killing have been reported in the different parts of the United States. The findings attest that the United States tops the list when it comes to the gun violence. This phenomenon has been a thorn in the flesh for the federal government. However, the analysts perceive that over the years all country administrations have done nothing to resolve this critical issue. The gun violence in the United States is a serious issue and therefore, it is high time the federal government and other concerned parties came up with strict legislations to curb the misuse of guns in the country. Based on the above issues, it is evident that there is a need for the government and other stakeholders to employ appropriate mechanisms that will limit the misuse of firearms. Despite that the federal government has been trying to overcome this ever occurring problem, there is a robust solution that can be employed through the influence of the international community to end the menace. For example, the international community can boycott traveling to the United States to force the federal government to undertake serious gun restriction measures. The findings show that some of the European citizens have already adopted this strategy for their own and if the other continents take similar actions, the federal government will be forced to take the issue of gun control seriously. In conclusion, this essay finds that the legislators appear to lack some empathy. This because they have done little to control gun violence in the country. It is the right time for the legislators to get out of the public offices if they cannot serve the interests of the citizens. The mass killings of the innocent civilians calls for the serious gun control measures. The federal government has failed to do so severally and therefore; it is time for the international community to get in and save the innocent citizens from gun violence sadists. Don’t waste time! Technology Strategy of Apple

Question: Describe about the Technology Strategy of Apple? Answer: Introduction Dynamic capability is highly important to an organisation in the 21st century, as it is an important concept that allows the firm in integrating, building and reconfiguring internal and external competencies to adapt to rapidly changing environment. Businesses are faced with significantly dynamic and changing environment conditions, and it is essential that they must respond to such external environment conditions in order to efficiently performing their business processes. Dynamic capabilities are therefore essential as they allows for efficiently addressing the external environment conditions and this dynamic capability can be possessed by businesses in respect to different areas of business. Dynamic capability can be possessed by business in respect to technology whereby technological innovation could be applied by them in leading the organisation to higher success level. The capacity of an organisation to purposefully create, extend or modify its resource base is defined as dynam ic capability (Teece, 2009). This report is focused towards performing a critical assessment of the dynamic capability of an organisation, and the organisation selected is Apple Inc. The analysis therefore focuses towards the extent to which Apple possesses dynamic capability with respect to technology. This will be analysed by way of evaluating whether the key innovation activities are currently operating within organisation or not. The role of political and cultural influences in affecting the dynamic technological capability in the organisation will be assessed and finally, the ways in which external environment forces affect the application of technology within it. Dynamic Capability with Respect to Technology at Apple This section of analysis is now focused towards analysing the extent to which Apple possess dynamic capability in respect to technology. An analysis of Apple Corporation indicates that it is a US based organisation that specialises in providing highly innovative electronic products and services to its customers worldwide. An analysis of dynamic capability indicates that such capability is utilised in modifying short term competitive positions for the purpose of achieving long term competitive advantage. This concept of dynamic capability emerges from the two major concepts such as resource based view and the concept of routines in evolutionary theory of the organisation. The main focus of this concept is that it is aimed at sustaining competitive advantage rather than achieving it. This has been an important focus area of this concept and it is extensively important for businesses because the case of Nokia indicates that despite having competitive advantage with the company, it faile d to sustain such competitive position (Leoncini and Montresor, 2007). As dynamic capability is focused towards sustaining the competitive advantage, an analysis of the given case of Apple indicates that the company poses dynamic capability with regard to technology. The core dynamic capability of Apple in respect to technology is that the company has highly innovative processes and man power that have the capability to provide innovative products and services to its customers. This dynamic capability of stronger and innovative leaders responsible for working across Apple has allowed the company in efficiently sustaining the core competitiveness of the organisation despite the death of its most innovative CEO Steve Jobs. It was mainly the leadership effectiveness of Steve Jobs that has revolutionised the performance of the entire organisation, and resulted into the attainment of leadership position to the firm in the industry. But the dynamic capability of Apple has developed at such a larger scale that it has allowed the company in sustaining its core competitive advantage of being the leader in providing highly innovative products and services to its customers despite the death of Steve Jobs. The technological capability that is highly dynamic and it is with the company is mainly in the form of highly advanced technological equipments and processes as developed by its highly technological staff. An analysis indicates that Apple has its own operating system known as iOS which is utilised in its smart phones, and the company is continuously utilising such advanced technological systems by bringing more innovation to it in the form of upgrading it. The ability to innovate has been the core dynamic capability of Apple with regard to technology, as all the electronic equipments as offered by the company is highly dynamic and convincing. They are innovative and at the same time, they are unique. The iOS operating system is unique offering of Apple, and its ability to innovate and further introduce highly advanced operating system is regarded as its dynamic capability with respect to technology. This dynamic capability has allowed Apple in sustaining even complex and dynamic cha nges as prevalent in the external environment. Apple has not occupied the position of technological leader, but it has achieved mastery with respect to marketing technologically based products to its consumers and also in developing features that creates value to people (Helfat, 2013). Thus, the dynamic capability as identified in respect to Apple indicates that it is its core human resource advantage that are highly skilled and knowledge intensive that they allows for producing technologically devised products that offers higher value to its customers. Evidence of Key Innovation Activities and their Need within Organisation An analysis of Apple Inc indicates about the key innovation activities that are being carried out within the company in sustaining its key competitiveness within the entire industry. An analysis of the history of Apple Corporation indicates that the company undertakes innovation activities on regular basis as a part of its business processes. The evidence of key innovation is identified in respect to Apple in the form of incremental improvements that are performed by the company on regular basis with regard to its technology offerings. As for instance, the incremental innovation with regard to technology as identified in respect to Apple is mainly in respect to its iOS operating systems which has been upgrading with each newer smart phone as introduced by the company. Apple has recently introduced iPhone 6 which possess the latest operating system i.e. iOS 8, and this technology sounds extremely faster and innovative (Helfat, 2013). Apart from upgrading the existing technological environment and products as offered by the company, the innovation activity as noted with regard to Apple is mainly in the form of line extensions which have been performed by it. As for instance the line extensions in respect to its technological products such as iPhone has been extended from iPhone 3 to iPhone 6. Similarly, there has been the extension of other major technological offerings by the company, and this particular innovation activity has proved to be highly successful and contributing factor towards enhanced level of performance of the company. Apart from this, the evidence of innovation activities as identified in respect to Apple include the identification of newly and most advanced technological system. The company has considered diversification strategy with respect to technological products it delivers, as the recent rumours indicate that the company is working on its most significant technological concept such as App le car. All such technological strategies of the company give an indication of the evidence of key innovation activities that have been carried out by Apple (Innovation Lessons from Apple - Competing with Yourself, 2014). In terms of the need to undertake such innovation activities, it is highly essential that company should continue to undertake such innovative activities with regard to enhancing its technological capabilities. This is mainly because the external environment is highly dynamic and demanding, and requires the companies to innovate with respect to their technological offerings so that they can cater to the needs and requirements of their customers. With respect to technological products as offered by Apple, it is highly crucial that the company should undertake innovative actions in enhancing its performance by way of introducing newer and advanced technologies. They are therefore highly needed to Apple in sustaining its competitive advantage in the industry (Male, 2010). Impact of Political and Cultural Influences on Apples Technological Capability The role and importance of political and cultural factor is pivotal in affecting the performance of technological capabilities in an efficient way. The technological capability needs to be maintained but this is largely affected by the factors such as political and cultural factor. As a result, these factors should be given higher level of importance in ensuring that the technological capability can be maintained in a way that ensures the attainment of competitive advantage. An analysis of the case of Apple Inc indicates that the role of political factor has been crucial in impacting the technological capability of the company. An analysis indicates that politics is prevalent across the organisation in terms of the selection of leader or CEO of the company after the demise of successful leader Steve Jobs. The introduction of leadership of Tim Cook has affected the ways in which technological innovation is carried out. As for instance, there has been the role of politics in the manage ment of Apple, as the entire way of performing technological innovation has changed under the leadership of Tim Cook. The technological innovation is highly significant under the leadership of Tim Cook because of major decisions that are undertaken by the leader (Ren and Shou, 2013). Apart from role of political factor affecting the technological capability of the company, the role of cultural factor is also significant. In a highly globalised nation, the role of cultural factor affecting the performance of the organisation is significantly higher. This is mainly because businesses often perform the management of their operations across cross national boundaries, and this leads to their interaction with the cross cultural factor. Such existence of cross cultural factor majorly affects the performance of businesses especially in respect to the processes and measures that are being undertaken. In this relation, the case analysis of Apple Inc indicates that the role of cultural factor is significant over the companys ability in performing innovation with respect to the technological measures that it has undertaken (Kara, 2014). As for instance, the cultural factor affects the technological capability of Apple Inc in a positive way because it has been analysed that A pple Inc supports the inclusion strategy with regard to its employees. This inclusion strategy allows for combining the people from diverse background and the interaction of diverse culture contributes in a positive manner towards attaining technological breakthrough in terms of development of newer products and services that are technologically sound enough (Langley, 2014). Thus, the analysis as carried out in respect to the impact of political and cultural factor over the technological capacity of Apple has indicated that the impact has been positive and these factors account for sound enough contribution in achieving technological developments across the organisation in the form of technologically sound products and services. Impact of External Environment on Technological Application at Apple The external environment condition of an organisation directly affects its performance, and the case analysis of Apple Inc indicates that the external environmental forces have direct level of impact over the technological innovation that has been carried out at Apple. Apple is faced with extremely competitive environment condition, as there are various major players that e rare directly competing with it. The major competitors are mainly the Samsung, Google, Microsoft, HTC, Motorola and many more. The case analysis of Apple Inc implies that the company has engaged in patent war with Samsung mainly because it has blamed Samsung for stealing its technology (Perton, 2013). Apart from the competitive conditions, the technological condition also impacts the performance of Apple in a direct way. This is evident from the fact that the external environment as faced by Apple is highly dynamic and challenging because of increasing level of expectations of customers from the company for highly advanced and technological products. As Apple has gained the reputation of being the most innovative company, the expectations of its customers has also enhanced significantly. They expect highly innovative features in the iPhones launched by the company from time to time. This higher expectation of the customers affects Apple in the form of making significant innovation in the products and services that it offers to its customers. Thus, competitive environment along with higher customer expectations require Apple to make significant level of technological revolution in its operations so that these expectations of customers can be efficiently met (Martin, 2014). Extent to Which Dynamic Capability Produce Effective Response: The analysis above has indicated that there are direct forces that are affecting the performance of Apple in a direct way. The role of dynamic capability in technology as possessed by Apple Inc in this context is significantly important and this is evident from the fact that such accessibility to dynamic capability allows the company in efficiently addressing the external environment forces in a direct way. As for instance, the higher customer expectations for technologically innovative products from the company is addressed by way of the technologically dynamic capability in the form of ability of the company to innovate its processes and provide newer and sound technologically devices to its customers. The technological capability in the form of highly experienced and knowledgeable employees allow the company in accelerating within its processes in offering sound support to its customers and this in turn allows it in responding to external environment conditions in a positive way. Colonists Essays - Stamp Act, Thirteen Colonies, Quartering Acts

Colonists Britain had a new policy when it came to it's colonies. All they had to do was inforce the laws they already had, not make new ones. George Greenville, Britains Prime Minister from 1763 to 1765, didn't realize this. To raise money for Britain after the expensive French and Indian war, they decided to tighten control on the colonies The Proclamation of 1763 was the first of five laws passed to accomplish this new goal. This "proclamation" reserved lands west of the Appalachian Mtns. for use of the Indians. The frontiersmen were the first to get angry at the new land law because they wanted to settle in the unexplored west. Then in 1764 the British parliament passed the Colonial Currency Act. This act took away the right of any colony to issue its own paper money. This lead to increased poverty and hardship after the French and Indian war. The people opposed it because if more money was in circulation the economy would of been better. The Sugar Act in 1764, put a tax on sug ar, molasses, wines, and other foreign products. This upset one Samuel Adams. After having lived in the colonies some years and being a successful merchant, He felt that the law was particularly unfair for merchants, as they were the most taxed. This also increased fear among the colonists that they would lose the right to determine taxes among their own colonies. Later in the next year of 1765, the Stamp Act was decreed. Special stamps were now required on newspapers, playing cards, business papers, and other legal documents. This law hurt the common man, but most the wealthy. John Adams, a well respected Virginian, wrote a partition to the king of Britain to repeal the act. Daniel Dulainy led protest with the people using effigies and all. They were afraid that there would be an increase of external taxes and the colonies would lose the right of thier own taxation. The Quartering Act in 1765, colonists had to give British troops places to live, some supplies, and part of their salaries. The New York assembly opposed this because it was an infringement on the rights of "British Citizens" and represented a removal of colonial self government. It is now apparent with these new laws the citizens of the 13 colonies felt violated and used. They did not feel they were properly represented in parliament nor that the king should have any right to oppose restrictions on them each time a new law was passed, more resentment and anger would increase thus was born the American Revolution.

A PCR Test to detect H1N1 virus is now being used to check infection of swine flu. The increasing number of new outlets such as fast food restaurants, fancy restaurants and gourmet bakeries around UK has been showing a significant growth in this sector. Food spending is high as a percentage proportion of total consumer expenditures in UK At the weekends there is a much broader appeal as a large number of customers go to the outlets and malls at a very broader perspective. At the weekend there is saturation of the activities. Market consists of: Age   Youngsters who are single and currently enrolled in college and high school. Family units   Young families along with children. Gender   Both the sexes will be targeted for the purposes of generating sales.. People from medium income and individuals and other lower medium income bracket people will be more likely to visit us. As per a survey conducted of young people aged 15 45 years, 80% of those interviewed like fast food. 90% of them like fast food on a regular basis, and 10% of them claimed that they like fast food very much, or love fast food. The following reasons were also provided by the survey for purpose of positioning and increasing popularity of fast food: Usually people have 12 months with 52 weekends and there will be three long holidays a year. Most of UK people love to shopping in high streets and malls, and when they do strolling around the shopping centers, they require a quick bite to accommodate their activities. Parents give more money to kids and students to buy lunch. Fast food is naturally their first choice, because of the brand building effort that heavily targets their age group. White-collar workers in offices have stopped bring lunch, and enjoy chicken, hamburger, pizza or other fast food joints in the vicinity. People in UK do not perceive fast food is a luxury,  and they enjoy it by bringing their family, particularly if they have small kids. 2.10.1. SEGMENTATION OF MARKET: Our target market segment is the younger generation as our primary market. Due to high extra-curricular activities among UKs youth, it is common for the youth to have lunch inside shopping malls, and not at home. The secondary market that we have chosen is the Working class. There are various major shopping malls across London,  including  Westfields, Bretncross etc which are the biggest shopping mall in the nation, employing more than 50,000 workers. LFC is the alternative for a quick bite while shopping the fancy boutiques in the area and is also a delicious attraction for tourists. 2.10.2. NEEDS OF THE MARKET: LFC sees out target markets as having a broad range of needs.  A recent analysis of consumer trends by Euromonitor has identified the below needs among our target markets. Our core group: Looking for speed in services Likes to have variety and flavors in the foods, preferably something fried Insists upon a friendly, clean, and attractive environment Wants an entertaining and fun experience Adopts a global lifestyle Comes from various ethnic backgrounds Enjoys eating out Is computer literate Has an active lifestyle There is large potential and growing market needs that can be served by LFC despite of the fact that there are so many competitors in the market. Yet London Fried Chicken feels that its great taste and unique services and offers will be able to attract more and more clients. 2.10.3. COMPETITORS IN THE MAIN AREA: Our main competitors in this fast food restaurant segment are the food outlets within the 2 miles radius along the Oxford Street. In our location, there is Pret-a-manger, pizza hut, KFC, Subway, and others. Therefore the following are the main competitors of LFC: Pret-a-manger Pizza hut KFC Subway McDonalds These are the brands of international fame and it can only be possible to attract clients by making oneself more competitive and tasteful in compared to the above. 2.10.4. STRATEGY FOR SALES: The sales strategy is building and opening new locations at different outlets in order for increase the revenue. However, this plan will be put into execution and implementation when the one market tester outlet at first showed potential growth. As each individual location will continue building its local client bases over a benchmark period of say first three years of operation, the goal of each store is  Ã‚ £109,460 in annual sales, with the original flagship store expected to earn almost  £225,000 per annum. 2.10.5. FORECAST OF SALES We anticipate the highest peak on the months of July and August in our volume of sales forecasted, due to the summer seasons and than in November and December season due to Christmas holidays. Millions  of people from the EU countries visit Britain each year, mostly for shopping purpose and dining. Then there are also tourists anticipated from Asian countries as well, this explains the jumped of sales in these last two months of the year. (all sums in below graph are estimated numbers in  £) 2.10.6. MILESTONES: During the initial phase of company being set up, the 4 founders (Tim, Joseph, Carol, and Amanda) will conduct planning and implementation in constructing the brand name and image and the making of LFCs first outlet. The planning and construction will take approximately 8 to 9 months. This is in addition to the process of refinement and revision which will take the remaining of the 12 month period before our opening in middle of the year 2010. 2.11. Oceans :: essays research papers

Oceans   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Earth is the only planet in the Solar System that has liquid water. The ocean contains ninety seven percent of the earth’s water and covers almost three quarters of the planet. There are four different oceans, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and the Arctic. Tides and currents occur in all three of these oceans. Many different kinds of fish and mammals also make their homes in these oceans. All of these oceans are connected to each other in some way. Humans find oceans to be very interesting, beautiful, and exploring. All oceans contain salt water and other minerals. The Pacific Ocean has the largest body of water in it. It spreads nearly halfway around the world. The Pacific Ocean is also the deepest ocean out of all four oceans. The Atlantic contains the second largest body of water. Next is the Indian Ocean, which is on the borderline of being a big ocean and a small ocean. Last is the Arctic Ocean, which by all means is the smallest ocean of them all, and the shallowest.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Tides are common features of the ocean. Tides occur when large bodies water rise and fall, because of the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. Spring tides are especially strong tides; in spite of the name they have nothing to do with the season spring. They occur when the Earth, the sun, and the moon are in a line. Spring tides occur during the full moon and the new moon. Neap tides are especially weak tides. They occur when the gravitational forces of the moon and the sun are perpendicular to one another. When water moves from side to side, it is called a current. Currents move warm and cold water to different parts of the ocean.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ocean water is often referred to as salt water. Ocean water becomes salty as water flows in rivers, it picks up small amount of mineral salts form rocks and soil of the riverbeds. This very-slightly salty water flows into the oceans. The water in the oceans only leaves by evaporating, but the salt remains dissolved in the ocean, it does not evaporate. So the remaining water gets saltier and saltier as time goes on.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Animals of the ocean are really interesting and fun to learn about. Many of the oceans fish use what is called a coral as a nursery and a home. This coral also serves as a shelter to the fish from other big creatures that may want to eat them.

Every human being has a certain amount of neurotransmitters that produce different hormones, and send them throughout the body to perform their individual function. Some humans, for one reason or another, do not have enough functioning neurotransmitters for some hormones. SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) work by preventing the reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, and thereby increasing the levels of the transmitter serotonin in the body (King, 2010). According to King ( 2010), serotonin is responsible for the regulation of sleep, mood, attention, and learning. Patients with bipolar disorder have been found to have irregularly low levels of both serotonin and norepinephine (another neurotransmitter) in their bodies, which has been linked with depressive states. SSRIs must be used concurrently with a mood stabilizer to decrease the chances of hypomania in patients. The most commonly used stabilizers are valproic acid and lithium (MacQueen, 2001). These drugs help to mellow the patient out, and make the â€Å"highs† of their swings less high, and the lows of their swings less low.
